A great way to add depth to your canvas photos is to add depth of field to the photographe. There will be times when the background of the scene you are composing will greatly enhance your subject, or perhaps will be your subject. In many landscape shots, you will want to clearly and sharply portray what you have seen with your own eyes to the rest of the world.
But what if you add a family member or your pet to the foreground? When you feel that the mountains in the distance are just as important as spot in foreground then your best option is to increase the depth of field in the photograph.
You can do this by increasing the aperature (or using a larger f-stop number) on your digital SLR. Therefore, instead of using an f/2.8 apearature, which will give you a shallow depth of field, you will want to use something around an f-16 aperature.
If, however, you are using a point and shoot camera you can increase the depth of field in your photos by simply using the "landscape" mode in the scene menu.
