The Eyes Have It

Just as a picture can be worth a thousand words, a portrait can be worth a thousand more. A portrait is a very intimate reflection of your subject and displays beautifully on a framed photo canvas.

To obtain a unique portrait try getting in quite close or shooting from angles other than stright on. As a good point of reference, however, be sure to always include the subject's eyes in the portrait, no matter how close you decide to take it or from what angle you decide to shoot.

Depending on the camera seetings, you may not always be able to obtain a large depth of field in your portrait, but that's okay. Just be sure to always focus on the eyes. Once that's accomplished be sure to look for the catch-light reflected in your subject's eyes. Catch light can be the result of any light you have facing your subject, whether it be a flash or the light from a window. The catch-light will add a sense of dimension and realism to your portrait. So now you're ready to go ahead and take those portraits of that special person in your life and always remember: "the eyes have it."
